On November 23, 2021, the CICC (College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants) officially opens.
The previous regulator, the ICCRC (Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council), to continue as the new College-CICC.
The CICC is now the official regulator of immigration and citizenship consultants across the country. All paid consultants must be licensed by the CICC to work with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.
CICC regulates immigration consultants under the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants Act. In order to better protect public rights, it has powers and tools to investigate and discipline consulting agencies and individuals who misconduct and provide illegal immigration services.
There are also a new and higher standards and requirements for immigration consultants. To become a professional licensed consultant, aspiring consultants must
- already hold at least a bachelor’s degree, and
- complete the new competency-based graduate diploma program.
In addition, the licensees are required to be evaluated annually, must complete annual continuing professional development requirements and an annual practice assessment.
