IRCC announces the opening of the Parents & Grandparents Program 2022. IRCC will begin sending out invitations today, October 12.

Similar to 2021, the IRCC will only send invitations to potential sponsors who have submitted an Interest to Sponsor form in 2020. 23,100 potential sponsors will be invited by the IRCC from the remaining 155,313 potential sponsors who have submitted an Intent to Sponsor form in 2020.

23,100 potential sponsors will receive invitations within the next 2 weeks. This is to help IRCC reaches its goal of accepting up to 15,000 complete applications. In 2022, the IRCC will not open a new interest to sponsor forms.

Therefore, anyone who submitted an Interest to Sponsor form in 2020 but did not receive an invitation to apply in January 2021 or September 2021 can check emails to find an invitation.

If you submitted your Interest to Sponsor form in 2020

If you submitted your Interest to Sponsor form in 2020, you saw a page with a confirmation number. IRCC asked you to write down this number so you can use it later.

The IRCC also sent you an email with a confirmation number to let you know that the IRCC has received your form. Once the IRCC sent out all invitations, you can use this number to check if you have been invited to apply for the 2022 program.

If you have lost or forgotten your confirmation number

If you submitted an Interest to Sponsor form in 2020 and lost your confirmation number, you can use the Lost Confirmation Number tool to obtain your confirmation number:

If you were not invited to apply

Parents and grandparents can visit for extended periods

If you want your parents and grandparents to come to Canada, they may be eligible to apply for a Super Visa, which allows them to stay in Canada for up to five years at a time.

Parents and grandparents visiting on a Super Visa can also apply for a 2-year extensions to their stay while still in Canada.
